How to fix ps5 controller not charging

Playstation 5

New PS5 DuelSense controller not charging? Don’t worry, here is the solution.

The PS5 controller is not charging because the front ports are 2.0, and are not providing enough power. Connecting the USB cable to faster 3.0 ports at the back should solve the issue. If the controller is still not charging, then updating its Firmware will definitely solve the issue.

This should solve the issue for most of you but if the issue still persists then don’t worry we have different solution for you.

Why your PS5 controller is not charging?

During my research I found so many reason for your PS5 controller to not charge. Some were related to controller while other were related to the PS5.

So, I’m going to list the most common, so that you can avoid these problems in the future.

The USB Cable is faulty: If you are using a faulty USB cable then it won’t deliver enough power and will not charge your PS5 controller.

Using the front port: Many people on reddit have reported that the front port of the PS5 are not providing enough power, and if you are also using the front port then most it’s likely it’s what causing your controller to not charge.

Damaged battery: If the batteries on DuelSense are damaged then it won’t charge and you can’t expect DuelSense to run wireless on empty fuel.

DuelSense uses a non-removable internal battery, so you will need to pay Sony Service a center a visit to get them changed,

But don’t worry, the chance of this happening is very little, especially if the controller is new.

USB ports have dirt: If the USB port of the PS5 has dust in it then USB will not be able to charge the controller properly. You should clean the USB whenever possible,

Software issues: Having some software issue with a new generation console is not something uncommon. Many people on Reddit, their controller have started acting weirdly after the recent update.

The issue can be either with your PS5 or DuelSense.

Faulty Controller: If the controller has some internal damage then it won’t work perfectly and can cause various issues. The damage can be either manufacturing or Physical. Either way, contacting sony is your best bet.

Internal damage in the console: Just like the controller if the console is faulty then it won’t charge the controller properly. And, if it’s the case then you will need to contact sony.

Some Basic Checkups

Before we start with any of the method I say let’s do a quick basic check.

Check for dust in USB port: Make sure that there is no dust in the USB port of both PS5 and DuelSensse controller.

If there is then clean a Air Compressor Can. If don’t have a one or don’t want to buy then you can blow air through your mouth. Bur I would recommend to use the Compressor Air.

Check if the cable is plug-in properly: Check if the USB is properly inserted into the PS5 and DuelSense, If the cable is not properly inserted then the controller won’t get enough power and will not charge even if the light is flashing.

I have personally faced this one so many times when I forget to properly insert the USB cable in the console. Do make sure that you properly insert the USB cable.

Using Rear use port on PS5

PS5 has 2.0 ports in the front and high speed 3.0 ports at the back and sometimes the 2.0 ports are not able to output enough power.

You can fix this issue by using the port at the back of the console.

This simple trick has solve the issue for so many users, and most likely work for you too. If it didn’t then don’t worry. just follow with the next solution.

Testing the USB cable:

If the above method, didn’t work then it might be possible that the USB cable you are using is faulty.

Try connecting your PS5 controller through a different cable and it charges then it means your cable is faulty and it’s time to buy a new one.

If the issue is still not resolved then follow the next solution.

If your friend also has PS5 then, you can try charging the DuelSese with his PS5 and if there are no charging issues then the problem lies with your PS5 console and if the controller is still not charging then the problem might be your controller.

You can try the opposite too. Your PS5 and your friends PS5.
