Fixes

Here are all the possible fixes to this issue of Xbox being unable to read the discs. Here’s how

Reposition your Xbox while inserting the disc

Try repositioning your XBOX series x and then try inserting the disc again

Make sure when you place the DVD in your console that the artwork faces up. If your console is resting vertically instead of horizontally, insert the disc so the artwork faces the proper direction, as shown in the image below. Discs inserted improperly will not play and may result in errors.

Insert your disc into the Xbox Series X so that the artwork on the disc is facing the top of your console if it sits horizontally, and facing left if it sits vertically.

Did the disc get stuck or Jammed inside?

There are two ways that you can fix this issue where the disc gets stuck or jammed inside the disc player. These are the ways you can fix the issue:-

Solution 1:- Restart, and then eject

  1. Press and hold the Xbox button in the center of your Xbox controller to open the Power Centre.
  2. Select Restart console.
  3. Select Restart.
  4. After restart, press the eject button next to the disc slot to remove the disc.
  5. If this doesn’t work, try to eject the disc using your controller. Press the Xbox button to open the guide, select Home, highlight the game that is currently inserted, and press X to eject the disc.

Moving on to the next thing that you can do to fix the issue.

Particular disc creating trouble?

Are you facing this scenario where most discs load properly and few cause this issue of being unable to load on the same Xbox series X?

In that case, we have divided this condition into three parts so that you’d be clear with what’s wrong in your case. Here are those.

Make sure that the Blu-ray player app has been installed successfully.

If you can play game discs but not CDs, DVDs, or Blu-ray discs, make sure that the Blu-ray player app has been installed successfully.

To watch Blu-ray or DVD movies on your Xbox console, you first need to install the Blu-ray Player app. And to install the app, Here’s how:-

  • Press the Xbox home button to open the guide. Select home and, then select store.
  • And select the search bar and type the Blu-ray player app and select when it appears.
  • select install to download and install the app.

This is one way to download the game that is to download the app directly from the store. There’s another way you can download the game and that is to insert the disc to install the app. Here’s how:-

  • Insert a Blu-ray or DVD disc into your Xbox.
  • Select the Blu-ray player app when it appears,
  • On the Blu-ray player app details page, select install.
  • Your disc should start playing automatically.

After the app is installed, You can watch Blu-ray discs or DVD movies by inserting the disc into your Xbox console and selecting the Blu-ray player app on the home screen, or by finding it under My Games & Apps.

Make sure your DVD or Blu-ray disc is from the same region where you purchased your console and for more information on this visit hereOpens in a new tab..

Make sure the disc isn’t dirty

Some discs play on your Xbox and others don’t? That’s probably because that particular disc is either defective or fully loaded with dust particles.

So, If you face such an issue where your disc player fails to read the disc, try cleaning the disc with a soft, clean, slightly damp cloth. Hold the edges of the disc and try not to touch the top and the bottom of that disc.

Once you clean the disc, Try inserting it again into the disc player and try if the disc works. If still, the disc doesn’t work then, try inserting that same disc on another XBOX series X which is our next point.

Try inserting that same disc on another XBOX series X

Insert the same disc on another Xbox series X. By doing that, you’d be clear with if this issue is with your disc or with your console.

If the disc works on another Xbox then you’d know that it is your Xbox that’s causing you this issue of not reading the disc or being unable to read the disc.

Playing the disc on another console will help you figure out whether the problem is with the individual disc or the console’s disc drive.

If nothing out of all these works in your favor, then there are chances that you need to replace the disc with a new one. And then check if the new one works fine for you. Moving on to the next way to fix the issue.

No disc plays/Loads or get recognized by your console?

Try the following solutions if none of your discs will play, or if you insert a disc and your console doesn’t recognize it. If your console tells you to insert a disc when a disc is already inserted, that means it doesn’t recognize your disc. In these scenarios, there are two possible issues:

  • The settings for instant-on power mode can render a small number of consoles unable to read discs.
  • The console’s disc drive needs servicing.

If you use instant-on power mode, change power modes, and power cycle the console

  1. Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide.
  2. Select Profile & system > Settings > General > Power mode & start-up
  3. Select Power mode, and then select Energy-saving
  4. Perform a hard power cycle by holding down the Xbox button on the console for 10 seconds. Once the console has completely shut down, press the Xbox button on the console again to restart it.
  5. Try your disc again. Wait a few seconds to see if the console recognizes it. If the console can now read the disc, you can revert to instant-on power mode.

Follow the above steps if the problem happens again, then the problem is with the console’s disc drive which requires repairing and servicing.

Also, make sure that the disc player isn’t making any grinding noise or make sure that there isn’t anything that’s stuck in between the disc player. In that case, as well, you need to get your console’s disc driver repaired or serviced.

For repairing and servicing the console’s disc drive, Either visit your local technician who does all the repairs and servicing. Give your console to the local technicians only when they are trustworthy and have delivered results before. Otherwise, submit a service request to Microsoft which is our next point. Here’s how you can submit a service request to Microsoft.

Submit a service request to Microsoft

Submitting a service request to the Microsoft service center is a wise option than visiting any local technician.

Professionalism and quality of services are the major concerns that stay when you give your console to the service centers or workshops apart from Microsoft’s service and repair center.

If you’ve registered your device, sign in at Device services to see the device’s warranty status. If it’s within warranty, repairs are free and you don’t need to pay anything. And If your device is out of warranty, you’ll be charged a repair fee.
