The Playstation 5 has this issue of YouTube not working or showing nothing when you open it. Need not worry as here we’ll try to find out all the possible fixes.
Although, there isn’t anything clear about what’s wrong. However, this problem has been addressed by YouTube(Still there’s no fix yet) itself but there are few things that you can consider and there are good chances that you might get it fixed. let’s dig in straight.
YouTube App doesn’t work if you don’t enable the HDCP i.e; High-bandwidth digital copyright protection and to enable that Go to Settings and then click on System then choose HDMI to get a list of options and after that turn on HDCP by hitting the toggle next to disable HDCP.
Fixes for the YouTube app not working on the PS5.
Here are 7 ways you can fix the issue of the YouTube app not working. Also, you can call this a checklist in order to solve this problem. Here’s what you can do on your PS5 in order to fix the YouTube app not working:-
Check your Network connection on the PS5.
First things first, check for the network connection. There are good chances that your internet is causing this issue of connectivity. If you are facing any issue with your connectivity then ask your Internet service provider(ISP) about it.
Moreover, check your PSN and check if it is working fine and you are connected with the PlayStation network. If you find something unusual there, try logging in again.
Also, check for the DNS server that you have selected. In my recommendation, Google and Cloudflare are more stable if you are in the United States or nearby. (Google DNS:- 220.127.116.11 18.104.22.168.) and (Cloudflare DNS:- 22.214.171.124 126.96.36.199.).
And To improve internet stability:- Try using a LAN cable in order to get a stable internet connection and for those who use wifi, try using a dual-band router and dedicate 5ghz to your PS5(If you are using 5ghz, make sure that the router and the PS5 are placed close to each other.
Check for updates
Check for the updates and make sure that the YouTube app is updated to its latest update. Also, make sure that your PS5 is updated to its latest update.
Both PS5 and YouTube needs to be updated to their latest updates respectively. In case, any of them isn’t updated, this might lead you to such errors where you won’t be able to use the app or the application might show up with some errors.
To avoid such errors, make sure to turn on the auto-updates both with PS5 and the application(i.e YouTube). If your PS5 is completely updated with all that, follow the next one.
Delete all the saved data on App storage and the cloud storage
Delete all the saved data on the app storage and the cloud storage as storing a lot of data can often lead to adding some garbage files as well.
And those garbage files can lead to problems like the Application not working properly or completely. But before deleting all the saved data, follow the step mentioned in the next para.
Reset the YouTube app on PS5. Sign back in after a restart and then link your PS5 with the mobile app on your phone. Use your phone to start a video on your PS5 app. Select another video, wait a few seconds and select another using your phone. Then after a few tries. Then just use the PS5 and it should be working.
And to delete the saved data on the app, go to settings> Saved data and Game/App settings> Select saved data(PS5) or saved data(PS4). select one of them and you get the option to delete.
Uninstall and re-install the YouTube app.
Uninstall the YouTube app and then re-install it. Uninstalling and then re-installing will make sure that there isn’t any file that’s causing you such errors where the app doesn’t work.
It is actually a good way to reset the application and it eventually resets everything that’s bothering the application(in case).
Although you’d lose all the previous data, however, for the most part, you’d not be complaining about losing your data. As it will clear out all the bugs and corrupted files. Moving on to the next one.
Note:- If you are someone who installed the YouTube app when you just bought the PS5 then in that case I think you are good to go. In many cases, people who installed the YouTube app later after buying the PS5, YouTube started crashing in their cases.
Reset the YouTube app
Resetting YouTube is almost equivalent to uninstalling and then re-installing the YouTube app back. You can decide which is the wise option for you. Either go for resetting the YouTube app or uninstalling and then re-installing the YouTube app.
Both would do the same thing, i.e, clearing out all the garbage files that your PS5 don’t need at all. Once you’ve cleared all the garbage files and still the app isn’t working, try the other steps.
Turn HDCP ‘ON’
HDCP stands for High-bandwidth digital copyright protection which as the name suggest helps the digital platforms to protect their copyrighted data from recording it.
That’s the reason why you need to turn the HDCP on before you open any app where there is copyrighted content. For instance:- media apps, such as Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and Disney Plus and YouTube of course.
There is an obvious problem if you were able to record video on YouTube on the PS5 while accessing any of these apps. So that’s the reason HDCP exists on the PS5.
Also, Since the update, you have to choose which version you want to play just like when choosing either the ps4 or ps5 version of a game.
Where you get the choice to launch the app click on the button with the 3 dots on and you’ll see the wrong version is trying to launch. Choose ps5 and enabling HDCP is important a well.
Go to Settings and then click on System then choose HDMI to get a list of options and after that turn on HDCP by hitting the toggle next to disable HDCP and you’re good to go.
That’s that for the topic and I am hoping that you got your answer and the fix of YouTube app not working and last but not the least you can also contact the customer support of PlayStation(Sony) and there are good chances that you might get the issue fixed.
If you think there’s something missing then in that case comment section is open and feel free to share your views. Also, for more such fixes you can follow our Playstation section and have a look at others as well.
